All About AllTop

This is the continuation of a story that I shared with you 24 hours ago about Internet Connections. Click here to read what I wrote yesterday.

....So after reading a few articles on Katie Konrath's Blog, one caught my eye. Katie mentions a website that is a cross between an encyclopedia and a search engine and the focus is on blogs:

Alltop_125x125 ...Called Alltop, it lists the best blogs in almost 150 categories - with subjects ranging from ADHD to Careers to Sales to Yoga.

It's a fantastic and easy way to make it easy for people to find blogs in the areas they want to read. And I love Alltop.com from an innovation standpoint because it solves a very real need.

Granted you could use Google and search the web, like about 75% of internet users do. You can even use Google to search Blogs. But what if you could look for a topic and then see some of the top blogs that write about that topic, and see what they are saying right now? That's the organizational model behind AllTop.com.

Google uses computer technology to find the answers to your search questions. AllTop.com uses technology to stay current but it is run by humans, like you and me.

AllTop.com describes itself: You can think of an Alltop site as a “digital magazine rack” of the Internet. To be clear, Alltop sites are starting points—they are not destinations per se. The bottom line is that we are trying to enhance your online reading by both displaying stories from the sites that you’re already visiting and helping you discover sites that you didn’t know existed. In other words, our goal is the “cessation of Internet stagnation” by providing “aggregation without aggravation.”

I will be using and referring folks to AllTop.com. I will be using some of the articles that I find through AllTop.com right here on Collective Wisdom in the future.

And my thanks to Katie Konrath for writing about AllTop.com on her blog, which I found out about in a series of notes back and forth between me and her mom Jill Konrath, who is a big proponent on LinkedIn.com

And that's how Internet Connections can work in real life with real people.

I think AllTop is awesome too! It's fun when you follow your interests and end up at a new destination that you never knew existed before.

Unfortunately, AllTop can be addictive - so watch out!
